2 Scandinavian women reveal the skincare items they use in their basic routines.
I’m fascinated by international beauty because I’m a beauty editor who lives in the United States. That’s actually an understatement. I have an obsession with foreign beauty. I’m more than prepared to plunge in and learn everything there is to know about the products, routines, and treatments that people use and adore, whether it be classic and effortless French beauty, successful and cutting-edge Korean beauty, or something entirely else. After all, regardless of location or culture, beauty is universal.
I’ve recently developed a particular fascination with Scandinavian beauty. In general, Scandinavia and the nations it encompasses—most frequently, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland—are seen by Americans as the pinnacle of minimalism. They seem to be the world’s leading suppliers of effectiveness and efficiency, therefore I was curious if their skincare regimens reflect the same attention to detail. Disclosure: It does. I’m taking notes as four Scandinavian ladies discuss the skincare products that made it into their carefully managed regimes.
Social media manager Maren Schia works out of Oslo. When it comes to skincare, she describes herself as “definitely a minimalist” and adds that products must be quick and simple to use to be considered.
What skincare regimen do you currently follow?
I simply wash my face with water in the morning, followed by the application of an eye cream, vitamin C serum, and moisturizing sunscreen. I use a cleanser and makeup remover at night. Following that, I rotate between retinol days, exfoliation days, and moisturizing days. I finish by applying lip balm, eye cream, and a healing moisturizer.
Which skincare item, if any, would you have to say you adore the most?
Absolutely wear sunblock! I always have it on when I leave the house and alternate between La Roche-Posay and the one from Beauty of Joseon. It actually protects my skin and makes a significant difference in how it looks.
Do you have any rituals, practices, or remedies that you enjoy using?
I recently purchased a two-liter water bottle so that I could stay hydrated all day. Undoubtedly a helpful advice if you have trouble getting enough water. Additionally, I adore dry brushing since it keeps my skin fresh and exfoliated.
What would you say best describes Scandinavian beauty?
Although it’s challenging, I believe that being as natural as possible is the most prevalent aesthetic. Simple in design. When the sun comes out, everyone walks outside to fully experience the fresh air (with sunscreen, of course). Additionally, simply spending time outside. An illustration is the recent surge in popularity of floating saunas, where you swim in the chilly ocean before relaxing in the sauna.
